iMessage trying to send on 3G

i seem having problem imessage on ip4. work intended when i'm on wi-fi, when i'm on 3g try send imessage, , not standard text. understand meant realise when it's on wi-fi or 3g , use either text or im? can around waiting im fail , force send text, forget , don't realise hasn't sent. ideas?

 

imessage requires data connection doesn't care wether it's wifi or 3g (if wifi available phone prefer that, though). i'm not sure why imessages failing on 3g - i'm assuming have 3g data plan, otherwise there's no point in keeping 3g enabled.
