Why is firewall turned off as default?


do because firewall isn't needed macs in same way antivirus isn't needed? i've been using mac few months , noticed firewall wasn't yesterday when fooling around system settings.
 

i don't know why it's way, guess perhaps assume behind hardware firewall these days , therefore software firewall not necessary.
