Verizon 3G vs AT&T Edge; which is faster?

thinking of getting ipad. live i'll have lte network, choice between at&t , verizon doesn't make difference. 1 place visit (in rural area), offers 3g verizon or edge on at&t network. idea faster -- or, less painfully slow -- in situation?
