Trying to set up network

i trying net work macbook , mba. have had success transferring files, when comes sharing screen , down loading files prompt enter name , password, don't have idea name wants me use , none of passwords work. other option gives me log in using apple id doesn't work either!!! confused, thought supposed easy macs. maybe stupid. need able share files between these 2 machines. there way can access macbook out side of home network mba ie: @ work while macbook @ home?

it wants username , password mac logging into.

edit: don't know level of knowledge, not meant insulting. username 1 if click on apple menu in upper left corner of screen, go system preferences, , users (users & groups). 1 of names listed there. not use e-mail or other websites.

if not prompted password when turn on computer try username without password. if not work try creating password computers in above mentioned area.
