i broke bank purchasing mac pro 2 quad core 2.4ghz processors. purchased 27" apple cinema display. purchased owc 6 x 4 gb of ram. have total of 26gb of ram. , purchased 240gb ssd drive owc. machine awesome compared 2006 imac using.
have built several, including liquid cooled pc's. first mac pro. , biggest reason purchased instead of new imac because of ability upgrade.
question processor upgrade options. not know if quad core , hex cores share same pin style. can i, in future replace 2 quad cores available 3.3ghz hex processors? (possible faster speeds in future) if possible, type of configurations need perform. need new heat sinks? need configure in settings or software? please detailed possible not mac expert.
understand how set bios on pc. on mac have no idea how set anything? no idea how use terminal or of technical stuff.
use mac os x because unlike windows,....it works!

sockets both fclga1366, yes... pull heat sinks off, pull out old cpus, clean , reapply arctic silver 5 thermal paste after drop in new cpus. remount same heat sinks, pram reset on reboot. done.
amazon sells them $1640 each.
if ram 1333mhz, run @ speed. not sure happens if mix up... downclocks slowest ram speed used.
