Film student looking to edit with iMac?

i in college film , looking buy imac next march(still saving up!) editing. technical specs should looking when go purchase imac, , explain me necessity said spec? using final cut express 4, adobe cs5.5 production suite, final cut pro x, , believe compressor. if helps know, have $3,000 saved new imac buy. beneficial wait until march '13 new imac, or should buy older imac or mbp? hear ivy bridge good... help!

 

it sounds can wait month or two.
