I deleted LOADS to free up space on my HD, yet the space has gone!

this strange one...i deleted load of files free space on macbook pro. ended around 22 gig free. turn off mac, later restart find free space has disappeared!

have run disk utility number of times = no problems hd , nothing has changed
ran cleanmymac = freed bit more space no change really
have run disk warrior , rebuilt directory = still no change

can't see on omnidisksweeper problem either...

have run out of ideas here...why mac have free space, not?!

for space issues, there few things can try:
i not recommend cleanmymac, based on number of complaints have been posted in forum , elsewhere. example: cleanmymac cleaned much. while may not have experienced problems yet, enough people have it's wise avoid it, since there free alternatives have better reputations, such onyx.

don't need "cleaner" or "maintenance" apps keep mac running well, , of these apps can more harm good. remove files/folders or unused languages or architectures, nothing more free drive space, risk of deleting important in process.

these apps not make mac run faster or more efficiently, since having stuff stored on drive not impact performance, unless you're running out of drive space. in fact, deleting caches can hurt performance, rather it, since more system resources used , performance suffers while each cache being rebuilt.

many of these tasks should done selectively troubleshoot specific problems, not en masse routine maintenance.

mac os x job of taking care of itself, without need 3rd party software. among other things, has own maintenance scripts run silently in background on daily, weekly , monthly basis, without user intervention.
