for space issues, there few things can try:

- for time machine users on lion, space may being consumed time machine local snapshots, can disabled.
os x lion: time machine's "local snapshots" on portable macs- search finder see if space being consumed large file or several large files. adjust 50gb in illustration whatever size deem appropriate.
