Weird Memory Usage Issue

yesterday doing several things on i5 imac 12gb memory. using elgato capture old vhs home videos, listening music on itunes, surfing safari, , had few other apps active, minimized. heck of it, decided @ memory usage in activity monitor. surprise, had small amount of free memory , huge amount of active memory (not unusually amount of inactive. out of 12gb couple hundred meg "free". did sort on "real memory" column , surprise, app eating memory "textedit". textedit running (minimized) , had simple document open in it. when quit textedit, free memory improved. not sure why textedit eating memory? i've never seen before.

Video editor/producer

as stated above, using 13", 15", or 17" mbp? starting use video editing more , more lately youtube , using 15" mbp thought happy have seen more people start selling 13" mbp on craigslist.....13" mbp video editing?

use both imovie , final cut pro x

 

i use 17 speed, size, , capacity. don't use fcpx or imovie, fcp 7 , premiere pro screen real estate essential. being said have used 13" editing pieces in past, find cramped visually, that's me.

Would I notice a huge difference between 2.4 and 2.6 GHZ Penryn 2008

hi! have 2008 15.4" macbook pro. logicboard died,and has big dent case seal , had replace keyboard.

thinking of getting fixed. can 2.4 ghz logic board in there $100 less if 2.6 ghz.

miss lower video memory (256mb instead of 512mb)and level 2 cache (3 instead of 6)?

browse internet , use photoshop occasionally. new macbook pro someday not yet...

Apple's attention to detail

i love apple's attention detail. i've haven't owned macs long. got first white macbook in 2006. it's little things me. tonight found "feature" on macbook pro (early '11) cool.

know little light lights when screen goes off (but laptop still on)? tonight when walked darkened office mbp sitting, turned light on , noticed little indicator got brighter. @ first thought eyes, when switched light off, noticed indicator light got dimmer. sat there 5 minutes, switching room light on , off, watching indicator automatically dim , brighten.

isn't neat? call me naive, simple, ocd, fanboy, whatever, little details. tells me apple cares products make.

$.02 night.
