Change MBA base model for MBA ultimate?

i got mba base xmas , have been using dell u3011 last 4 weeks. first mac i've adjusted i'm concerned performance.

@ given time, have following programs running:

• komodo edit (with several tabs)
• xampp
• thunderbird
• word and/or excel
• firefox 5-10 tabs

and performance gets pretty sluggish time time - slow animations, choppy video, pinwheeling, etc. i've been watching activity monitor , page file typically between 2.5 gb , 3.5 gb. run monitor @ native resolution, 2560x1600.

first thought air doesn't have enough horsepower do, base or ultimate, , need mini use desktop. cost quite bit more ensure when working @ desk had plenty of power handle work. having desktop , laptop, however, less convenient in terms of file management , simplicity.

i'm wondering is, mba i7 , 4gb of ram noticeably more capable, use @ desktop without slowdowns? if not, might suffer 3 months or , ultimate when ivy bridge out.
