hello, hoping bit of help. plan on buying macbook pro 13" following specs:
2.8ghz dual-core intel core i7
4gb 1333mhz ddr3 sdram 2x2gb
750gb serial ata drive @ 5400 rpm
i'll using work @ university writing , recording songs myself.
majority of songs won't contain more 10+ tracks. they'll have 2x guitar, 1-2x bass, 1 x drums , 1-2 xvocals. drums recorded using superior drummer vst using programmed midi files. guitars recorded using apogee 1 amp sims, same bass. , mixed ez mix2. people suggest upgrade by?
i've decided i'll upgrade ram 8gb doubt i'll use 16gb. hardrive in macbook pro 5400 rpm , i've been told 7200 rpm better internal drive. other sites have said need 3 other external drives, 1 drum samples, 1 record onto , 1 backup. these exteral drives necessary me?
thank helpful comments![]()

hi.
i'd suggest not upgrading @ all.
macbook running quad-core i7 4gb ram more capable of doing that!
of course had same doubt myself, when first bought mbp. i'm still recording fine though, running 2,4 gzh core 2 duo , 4 gb ram - 1066 mhz! multiple (20+) midi/ewql tracks common, record drums 7 tracks that. of course in combination guitar, bass, vocal, fx tracks, , more. using 256 gb internal hdd, external audio interface.
still i'd love new 1 - loading things faster, bouncing tracks faster, restart quicker, feeling bit more responsiveness. sort of luxury; isn't necessary. i'll defenitely go ssd, 8 gb of memory. running (more) background things whilst recording. ssd big plus in music production think. in quick loading several samples, or huge amount tracks of audio data recording/playback or (huge project) dubbing.
said, things running fine, running @ 64 samples in buffer size (latency). current processors @ least twice fast, ram running more mhz nowadays. 8 gb plus of course, don't need it. 16 gb overkill. 5400 rpm isn't quite fast, in case sure fast enough. , external disks, 3 (!) external drives wouldn't expensive, sounds pain in ass me. looks need usb hub wel.. don't agree? backup idea, use big sd card or usb stick of times.
spare money, maybe nice fender!
if let me know you've decided , if works out later on.
, ust out of interest, share demo of productions?
share things of course. appreciate it!
luck. anyone, please reply if feel i'm wrong or if have similar experiences!
