Safety concern with putting a Macbook Air in a messenger bag

i'm worried putting macbook air in messenger bag (one sits on hip, not on back), put enough force on computer bend body / potentially crack screen.*

have heard of happening?

*since computer sits in center of bag balanced on hip, it's bending around point. books or in bag, add bending moment...

what? if worries backpack. book placed in inside position effective in countering "bending" hip.
