Video overlay on a slideshow in iMovie

hey all....total newb here.

making dvd sister 40th birthday. idea have slideshow old photos running in background, while overlaying video "box" featuring friends , family commentary.

similar look:

possible in imovie? have slideshows created in iphoto, exported them , ready import in imovie.

ive searched around, couldn't quite find answer.

in advance!

 

imovie's "picture in picture" feature should able you. import slideshow imovie, put in project, drop video on top of it, , choose p in p menu.
