External HD causing kernel panics w Trash

i have external hd use downloads, videos, misc storage, etc, use on pc well. though safely ejected on pc, seems have caused file inconsistencies, because whenever try empty trash when it's plugged mbp, causes kernel panic. ive used disk utility , drive checks out fine. there way securely delete trash, or have copy on drive , reformat it?
