Can't view external hard drive contents in Finder

i using 27" imac , lion 10.7.2 external usb hard drive. had brief power outage , while external storage mounted. now, when mount external drive, warns:

mac osx can't repair disk "extra computer storage."
can still open or copy files on disk, can't save changes files on disk. disk , reformat can.

when view hard drive in finder, cannot view contents. can search items in external drive , copy them them up. have backed 400bg of 500gb of content on drive cannot remember names of other folders in root menu, , therefore can't backup remaining 100gb.

open terminal.
type: ls /volumes/extra\ computer\ storage
, hit return.
should give list of files , folders @ root of volume.
