Monitor aspect ratio and resolution issues

i have 30" mac monitor has worked years. today when powered up, aspect ratio had changed 4:3, had different background image , had horrible resolution. i've tried going "displays" , changing resolution, no avail. tried resetting pram , did nothing. anyone?

 

with hardware connect 30" apple cinema display?
