Upgrading Mac Mini

hello all... new forum, please patient. considering purchasing refurbished mini. want perform ssd upgrade, upgrade ram. suggestions/warnings?. have macbook air, , never own windows computer again; however, apple expensive. want transition mac desktop, can't afford mini formatted way want it. , appreciated.
