Competition or rights grab?

i'm interested in designers think of this. morning sent email competition illustrate/design t-shirt folk music festival. prize free family ticket. photographer designer used photography competitions being labelled 'rights grabs' organisation getting photography free undermining photography industry.

designers feel same? think organisation damaging design industry asking free work , profiting sales? or friendly competition?

it's different in 1 can use photography multiple times different applications etc, ad or t-shirt design quite specific. also, tend hand on copyright - designing logo , charging client everytime want use on new 'thing' wouldn't work. don't see them 'rights grab' more of want nothing!

designers suspicious of competitions in (unless they're student ones - respected) they're either attempt cheap work or huge free pitch. or more combination of both.

don't think i've ever seen competition run company i'd prepared enter. example - let's guess family ticket £60. perhaps that's worth £40 company (they make profit on face value , there vat guess). in hypothetical case want pay £40 t shirt design.

proposition might - i'm inviting 20 designers submit design t shirt, i'll choose 1 , pay them £40 final artwork.

pretty rubbish deal.

know of no designers enter them. suspect in casesthe people enter non-designers fancy being able have they've 'designed' being seen on other people.
