Anyway to know what ios is installed via IMEI?

is there anyway of finding out manufacture date or ios installed via imei number of iphone?

looking @ buying un-opened iphone 4 here in japan friend need sure can un-lock he'll i'm sending new zealand. guy selling *thinks* it'll still ios 4.x.x i'd sure before buying it.

 

doesn't matter. can unlocked on ios 5 after / if it's it's updated.
