i wanted share guys upgrades i've done macbook.
have mid-2010 basic 13" model (2.4 ghz, 4gb ram). not wisely, when got it, i've installed entire time machine backup of imac. mistake, should have done clean install , migrate settings. wasn't fast beginning, , time went by, , lion installed, became worse. knew had clean install, decided upgrade mac well, , in separate steps, i'll know impact of each step.
first thing did, install 8gb of ram. installation quite easy, , there instructions in apple's website. first time i've opened macbook, , quite amazed see how nice, tidy , clean inside.
performance boost felt instantly. apps launched bit faster, parallels working better, , around mac felt better , more responsive. still, boot time slow, , handling large files took lot of time.
second step - clean install. significant performance boost. should have done beginning. now, felt mac should feel. wasn't enough me. wanted upgrade put mac @ least on par current mbas.
third step - ssd. bought 256gb crucial m4, replaced current hdd, , did clean install again. i've enabled trim it.
yet performance boost. now, boot time extremely fast. launching apps, handling big files, iphoto, imovie faster. parallels joy use. great upgrade, no doubt.
conclusion - 2 yo. macbook, faster mba, , mpb sold. sure, payed upgrade, it's totally worth it. have no doubt serve me @ least 2 years.
