Steve Jobs Met with Light Field Camera (Lytro) Company's CEO

in upcoming inside apple book adam lashinsky, it's revealed steve jobs had expressed interest , subsequently met ceo of lytro, makers first light field camera. relevant book quote posted 9to5mac states:
lytro received lot of press last year when first of light field cameras went on sale in october. product received popular science's 2011 innovation of year.

light field cameras different take on photography capturing "the entire light field" , saving information single file. photographers can edit file afterwards in number of unique ways -- including refocusing image. video walks through unique ability:

one of limitations in light field cameras relatively low resolution. first lytro camera produces final photos of 1.2 megapixels (1,080x1,080). cameras don't take video , start @ $399 8gb model. camera carries elongated form factor seems result of unusual optics required.

given hype surrounding technology, it's perhaps no surprise steve jobs found interest in meeting young company. meeting, however, getting special attention due fact walter isaacson had said jobs wanted reinvent television, textbooks , photography.

apple released first digital textbooks ipad, , expected television space. apple's future goals photography, however, remain unclear. apple includes digital camera iphones , has made progressive improvements in camera quality on past few generations. while apple no longer makes standalone digital camera, were 1 of first product consumer targeted digital camera in 1994.

given popularity of smartphones , subsequent decline of point , shoot camera popularity, we'd expect future apple movement photography centered around iphone.
