also, can recomend tried , tested settings should using. had little practise on star trails weekend , didn't come out @ well!

thanks.

i recommend fast-aperture prime lenses capturing night life without flash... 24mm, 35mm or 50mm, of f/1.4l. if shooting handheld, use whatever iso speed allows capture photos @ shutter speed equal or greater focal length. star trails, use wide angle lens such 14mm f/2.8l, 24mm f/1.4l, or 16-35mm f/2.8l or 24-70mm f/2.8l on wide ends. want away vegas avoid light pollution. bring tripod , remote shutter release stabilize while doing long star trail exposures. focus tricky in low light, astrophotography set lens mf , use live view magnified 10x set focus manually on bright planets or stars (see page 122 in 5d mark ii manual more info). people use mirror lockup reduce mirror slap vibration (see page 101). use eyepiece cover camera strap if aren't looking through viewfinder during shooting. bring headlamp set turn off before taking shots. alternatively, if close enough interesting geological formations, include them in frame , use headlamp light paint them during long exposures. make sure moon either isn't present or new moon otherwise reduce number of visible stars. importantly, practice lot before heading out there second nature when go real shots.
