Help! Why can't I change startup discs?

this frustrating. running os 10.5 on power mac tower.
had 3 partitions on hard drive. after freeze up, machine wouldn't boot off system drive. restarted via install disc , ran disc utility. drive irreparable , reformatting necessary. installed system on 1 of other partitions. have been using time machine wd external drive , copied original system , files onto reformatted system drive. want partition/system startup system, has photos, preferences, etc. on it, partition not show in startup disc preferences, no matter seem do. missing something? restored system seems fine. consuming time. help.

does partition show when reboot mac while holding down option key? if choose , hit arrow icon.
try starting in safe mode see if can select partition there, if show @ is.
