confused lately. remember time when there big difference in performance between workstation , consumer level computer there no question, workstation faster, end of story.
see imac consumer grade i7 stand against server grade xeons no problem, way less money.
, because of lot of questions rise in head.
months search on internet find out big difference (expect price) between consumer computer against workstation , see differences in end not gonna make difference many usages out there.
in end realized can great consumer system.

do? work graphics designer , of work on adobe suite 3d graphics personal game project alongside in vue , try learn blender now.
realize there things expandability , ability add monitor of choice but:
1) need ecc memory?
2) need xeon can i7 can't?
3) isn't ability have 12 core system evaporated when more useful on end calculations final render, cheaper farm can take load same result?
questions of course not mac sided, can apply on other side well, long user of both worlds plan on full switch @ mac sometime lately , of ask mac pro vs imac.
finish, there mac pro can offer me on cheaper imac, miss here?

1,2: can use 3 year old macbook pro of stuff in indesign, photoshop , illustrator, efficient? no. depends on if imac i7 fast enough *you do*. maybe render simple models. maybe highly complex work takes 24 hours render. maybe batch process 200 22mp color corrections in multiple formats.
have define in order determine system works best you. once performance gap defined, can calculate if spending $2000 going worth in time saved on 2 years.
