Two FW HDD daisy chained - drives won't turn off anymore

dear all,

have bought second fw hdd have "outgrown" first one. in order use both, have daisy chained them included fw cables. both drives mount when start imac. far good.

setup 2 drives follows:
imac -- fw port -- hdd1 -- hdd2

have encountered 2 problems though far:

when turn off imac (shutdown), daisy chained drives don't turn off. drives go sleep , status led keeps blinking. when 1 drive connected, hdd turns off completely, how expect work.

when remove power computer (and 2 drives), drives turn off completely. however, when power returns, start humming away immediately. 1 drive connected imac, drive not move until imac turned on (as expect work).

support of hdd manufacturer says: drives work expected. joke, right ?!

experience when daisy chaining drives regards standby , turning off drives?

advice.

on mac mini, eject/unmount firewire hard drives lights stay on, though the drives spin down , stay silent.

run mac mini 24x7, haven't noticed if lights stay on when computer off. i'll check on you. have usb versions of same drives check on too.

@ point "feature" computer powered off still send enough power on firewire charge ipod.

in general, i've been disappointed in quality of implementation of firewire wd , seagate, considering premium charge.
