Manual sleep - waking not working

i have mp 3,1 , when manually put sleep, goes sleep, when move mouse or press power button bring back, either black screen beach-ball or white screen mouse pointer. ideas?

round, have 5770 driving 3 23" led monitors, 4 drive caddies full, plus have drive , ssd in 1 optical bay bluray drive in other optical bay. have external fw800 drive bay backups.

is apple 5770 or flashed/non-flashed pc card?
