Mac runs slow when using 1080p monitor

hi; received 22 inch 1080p tv decided use monitor hooking macbook air hdmi cable. unfortunately, when running @ 1080p on mac os x, whole computer becomes sluggish; not low frame-rate; takes web pages , documents far longer load normal, , can't watch videos full screen because choppy.

what's interesting, when boot windows using boot camp, everything's responsive, is; no slow down.

think it's strange think laptop can't cope such large display when running os x (don't people hook these things huge apple cinema displays?), , wondering if had advice?

spec of laptop:
  • 2.13ghz c2d
  • 4gb ram
  • nvidia 320m
  • ssd 12gb free

ok. don't judge display geometric size rather number of pixels. fact have 22" display irrelevant. display's important specification 1080p 1080p, isn't it? means pixel density 1920x1080. such, not large display. macbook air supports external monitors 2560x1600. more 4 times number of pixels in 720p hd display. bottom line have ample power drive meager number of pixels in 1080p display.

should check settings in displays preferences pane.
