Keyboard problem, 'linked' keys

hey there,

i'm having problems keyboard on mid '11 15" macbook pro. keys appear 'linked' others. example; typing '1' presses 'volume up' (f12`) key. here's other examples (i'm typing numbers here, symbols typing themselves);

arrow key types 9 , right arrow key types 8

i've checked language/mapping setup , appears normal. i've checked 'keyboard viewer' shows behaviour detailed above, 2 keys being pressed @ same time.

i've done apple hardware test came clean, repaired permissions, done usual pram/smc reset , nothing has fixed it.

ideas before make appointment @ genius bar? i've had macbook month ago after hdd failed, , don't fancy losing 2 days cloning hdd or reinstalling software.

specs are: 10.6.8, 2.2ghz i7, 8gb ram, hd6750, 750gb hdd.

any chance there spill? i've seen behavior when water or liquid of type shorting out connections. it's possible it's bad keyboard or flex cable keyboard. chances it'll need trip apple, while recommend backup, shouldn't require erase or replace drive.
