Proximity sensor

hi guys,
might silly question wondering if normal can see proximity sensor in dark. far never observed yesterday made call @ night , saw kind of red dot.
iphone4 - ios 5.1

there's infrared led in there, it's possible can spot it. can see led of remote control units in dark more or less. long functions, don't worry it.
