i switched on windows computer 6 months ago, overall feel bit let down osx:
1. finder absolute dog in comparison windows explorer. finder inconsistent (i.e. folder merge doesn't work time, etc.), difficult use, , seems outdated file manager. biggest pet peeve finder doesn't sort folders on top; doesn't think seem make sense rather scanning through 1000 entries find folder? thankfully totalfinder saved day me - @ cost of $18.00.
2. mac apps seem lag in quality in comparison windows equivalents. i.e. finding decent, stable, compression/decompression tool challenge. closest come betterzip. there decent rar utility? there (free?) download manager osx beside jdownloader? chrome , flash don't work in osx. quicktime has poor codec support perian, need rely on vlc/mplayer play video files.
3. osx lion networking isn't greatest. osx network browser.
4. things keep changing between versions of osx causing incompatibilities. i.e. hyperspaces worked great on snow leopard stopped lion because apple removed apis. happens in windows world.
5. speaking of api changes - time machine stopped working old nas because of afp change.
can go on... think guys point.
osx has great features going time machine backups, imovie, facetime, mail.app, when peer underneath, osx seems quite unpolished in comparison windows 7.
perhaps expectations higher considering mac costs 2 - 3x more pc... therefore should better no?
wonder how osx stack against windows 8?
perhaps steve isn't around, maybe apple can make meaningful changes os?
i find more true of windows explorer finder, both relics.
that because built-in os. 7-zip best all-around archives.
there network browser, called... "finder".
removing apis isn't bad thing, useful remove them force migration more secure/faster apis, or increase security , stability. because windows this, highly unstable. also, issue more removal of ppc compatible code in lion.
nas's aren't officially supported tm, isn't apple's fault.
in no way mac cost more windows machine when comparing exact specs. windows 8 looks bad (i'm using developer version now). os x perfect desktop os, , has power , strength of unix behind it.
