hey guys , gals -
i've been looking around these forums , google days now, , @ bit of dead end, i'm reaching out community assist me in piecing together.
have few month old mb pro running lion.
problem: have wd passport 1tb music, movies, tv shows, etc... knows pain of backing extensive dvd libraries knows struggle. not have (i know, know - i've learned hard way , shall repent , sin no more). drive no longer mounts. when plug in, dialog "the disk inserted not readable computer - initialize... ignore eject"
when run disk utility , try repair, says:
invalid bs_jmpboot in block: 000000
volume repair complete
updating boot support partitions required
error: disk utility can't repair disk. ... etc
it's fat32 hard drive , disk warrior laughed @ me , spit in face it.
windows won't mount it.
used data rescue 3 - quick scan: nada - deeps scan - files! problem is, used before , if recover files doesn't keep of names. tens of thousands of files, doesn't thrill me. it's last resort.
turned drive genius 3. since drive won't mount, i'm limited on options. cleaned blocks, didn't help. other logical option try clone on external drive, in case hardware issue. didn't have hope, , cloned drive comes same issue.
started testdisk, bit confusing me , seemed want take several days scan, didn't know if wasting time well.
here am, @ mercy. invalid bs_jmpboot? if so, how fix? google results return little situation. in advance direction can offer. comfort welcome, too.
fixed!!!
everyone's here![]()
posterity sake, , stumble here google...
testdisk way go. didn't need ton of patience either. rather "analyse", because had 1 partition, went "advanced filesystem utils" , selected "fat: boot , fat repair"
had 1 partition, easy select one, chose "boot" - told me bad bad. knew. chose "rebuild bs"
after few minutes, came bunch of stuff, punctuated line "extrapolated boot sector , current boot sector different"
chose "write" - did it's thing. quit , got out of it.... viola!!! normal files , folders in tact.
though figured out shortly after posting, it's part of forum now, , not observer. i'm grateful resource.
time hdd.
