External hard drives, iTunes and Time Machine

hi all,

have filled internal hard drive on imac (500gb). bulk of files itunes (approx 350gb , growing time).

issue 1 - itunes library

plan move itunes media (though not library files because understand may experience speed issues) external hard drive.

have researched , think going go 2tb wd studio. connect mac via firewire 800. hd connected permanently , extension of imac.

think comfortable solution - though appreciate anyone's comments if think plan if flawed. second issue causing me headache... time machine.

issue 2 - time machine

use time machine old toshiba hd connected on usb. drive not connected permanently (i paranoid , keep drive away computer when out of house).

new hd attached (let's call "itunes hd") toshiba drive not sufficient continue tm drive. fear may mean have buy 2 wd studios (not appealing prospect obvious reasons).

question: not familiar firewire understand can daisy chain devices. on basis, would possible connect tm hard drive itunes hd , initiate tm backup of imac and itunes hd (as one) or have connect tm drive direct imac , perform back-up of both way?

imac has 1 firewire port see , don't partcularly want perform time machine ups on usb if can (i know pain , need usb ports).

sorry rambling. bit of nightmare. not flush cash need solution. disappointed can't utilise (meaningfully anyway) 500gb toshiba drive!

in advance help.

there's no problem in doing this.
it will, if you're backing internal drive. won't if include itunes media external.
you can daisy-chain firewire devices, yes, can plug backup drive itunes media drive perform backups of imac's internal drive. indicated, there isn't sufficient space backup imac's drive , itunes media on external drive.

alternative store itunes media on 500gb external drive, use 2tb external backups of both 500gb imac drive , 500gb toshiba.

recommend carbon copy cloner creating bootable backups.
