let me make 1 thing clear. i’m apple fan. well, that’s not true. i’m still apple fan, i’m hanging on last straws, because apple gradually turning graphics , printing industry. of course opinion.
guessed right, i’m creative dude.
i’ve been working on windows machines quiet few years. being fresh starter in creative industry, budget limited, afford best deals windows xp machines. yes, have bought imac, all-in-one solutions did not attract me. afraid when video card die on me e.g., have wait long imac repaired (which evidently no go me). so, desktop (still is) way go. breaks, swap , you’re in business in less day.
fresh starters become more successful (not lame ones maybe), case me too. resulting in increasing cash flow , budget.
so, why not mac? it’s not uncommon designer consider mac @ least once in creative lifetime…
2008 when windows xp little shuttle pc kicked bucket aka ceased be. coincidence time newer version of adobe creative suite. had update adobe (more 1 step) , buy new computer, mac consideration popped in mind. well, vista story pushed me bit too. hearing , reading horrifying stories it… , let’s agree, security of windows in general has never been 1 of microsoft’s strong points… (it’s related success… bla bla bla, know)
so, there was, new mac pro 3,1 double quad core 2.8 xeon machine 6 gb of ram , finger licking design. did mention hardly hear machine when in action? apple 23” cinema display , flat aluminum keyboard, open studio world. beautiful was. that’s design , designing about, not?
machine pre-installed osx leopard. had bit of hassle in beginning, regarding beach ball of death, fixed rather quickly. peanuts compared windows problems. installed new adobe cs4 on , ready go. time later upgraded snow leopard , gave me anomalies cs4, not worth mentioning (just annoying).
in 2012, i’m still working above setup, i’m feeling investing again. being belgian, investing business, when nothing’s broken, logical. ask government why… (not know, that’s discussion).
now, i’m thinking of ordering eizo 27” ips panel serious soft proofing , because of fact enjoy working best tools job. don’t compromises. i’m professional, right? use current cinema display second screen. i’m using silly philips 17 inch square troglodyte second screen (it’s screen really, it’s old , bit burned out). why eizo , not 27” apple cinema display? well, that’s because need actual monitor, not mirror.
best-of-the-best-state-of-mind, logical step new mac pro (imho). wait, apple did not update mac pro range since 2010 , benchmarks show imac (with i7 cpu) fastest apple computer. 2012, have 2008 mac pro model , can buy 2010 mac pro model? that’s awkward. maybe i’m missing technological knowledge understand differences between imac , mac pro, cannot having worries mac pro not being updated 2 years , i’m still not interested in all-in-one computers. worries me rumors apple dropping mac pro in short future (hell, maybe today). due fact air, pod, pad , phone sales main income of apple now.
called apple support simple question: apple still supporting creative industry or did turn on it? friendly lady answered apple still supports creative industry, in same conversation stated many designers , design studios work imac , eizo screen attached it. when told nobody knew in business (and know quiet few people) using glossy screen (i refer imac screen of course), except ones have never heard of calibrating, became little less friendly. told me absolutely no problem work imac kind of work. told bit silly buy imac screen 1 barely use, because soft proofing done on eizo. told me designers use glossy imac screen check mails , surf web... great idea! problem solved… not.
bottom line is: apple dropped matte cinema display, using eizo (or alternative) , mac pro outdated (and maybe dropped) designers should work all-in-one solution (with useless glossy screen).
that’s not all. mean me. cannot upgrade lion (or buy new mac pro lion), because means upgrading cs4. need @ least cs 5.5 make work on lion. wait, apple released press communiqué newest osx. mountain lion. 7 months after lion, really? now? wait adobe cs 6, sure runs without bugs or other complications? wasn’t apple said: “it works”? if wanted complicated, still work windows, right?
let’s sum things up. need new computer , new version of adobe cs. ring bell, doesn’t it? hassle i’m having, buying mac pro stable os runs compatible adobe cs x.x, windows path becoming actual again. 1 joking people never go windows once start using mac, 4 years later, ironically i’m 1 considering windows again. don’t know, feels more professional today. when check specs of adobe cs 5.5. runs on xp, vista , windows 7. evidently wider spectrum of choice. me means more compatible. maybe should dare saying, more supported…
there time when apple premium choice creative industry. today apple consumer electronics manufacturer, if ask me. it’s nice have iphone , ipad, more toys really? business not need that.
