iTunes transfer using thumb drive ???

hi,

i'm newbie mac user, (but been using ios years)

transferring itunes library on mac pc in next few weeks, wondering if usb flash drive (thumb drive) job or not?
music library approx 40gb, i'll buy thumb drive similar storage.

reason want use thumb drive because i'm going transfering of photos on first, , figured easiest way go (don't want use wifi network, can kind of ... unpredictable!)

thoughts??

 

cheaper option portable external harddrive transfer media on new mac, way have backup of well.
