i've decided i'm going splash out on monitor 2011 macbook pro don't know go for. i'm looking 1 maybe between 20" , 25" , price doesn't matter don't want go far apple thunderbolt display. have high res display on macbook (1680 x 1050) mean i'll have buy monitor same resolution best out of it?

you don't have to, buying monitor lower resolution laptop silly; why bother?
i'd recommend looking thunderbolt display. they're fantastic, , resolution unbelievable. other monitors 2560x1440 resolutions available, they're not cheaper apple display (at least none found).
if you're dead-set against apple monitor, can reasonable 27-inch or 25-inch, 19x10 screens around $400. hps pretty good; acer's.
