Old Spaces mouse binding after upgrade

hello! first time poster, semi-long time reader here!

finally made upgrade lion, , i'm having 1 small annoyance (i wouldn't problem it's not effecting anything... yet).

when using snow leopard, set mouse4 , mouse5 expose , spaces. now, lion doesn't have spaces anymore used to, , seems using mission control expose (at least thats how think seems me..). after i've upgraded, have liked have set mouse similarly, went mission control settings, , set key bind mouse button 5 (which mouse button 4 in snow leopard spaces).
annoyance is, next drop down box, shows little yellow triangle saying "this mouse button settings conflicts setting mouse button." when had snow leopard, mouse button 5 set expose, that isn't in system more, removed... os still thinks mouse button assigned still assigned "it."

tl:dr version: old keybinding removed feature still key bound , can't find out how unset (because menu item setting removed feature) doesn't show error when try set button else.

have tried searching these forums, , have tried using google best of abilities. i've tried thinking of ways maybe find terminal command unbind mouse key, , thought if there keybinding file somewhere on mac, haven't come useful. appreciated, not said, it's more of annoyance (so far not messing up). can still use mouse button 5 key bind, , works should ... displays yellow error triangle , i'd fix (and still use mouse 5).

in advance help!

i know old post, perhaps still looking answer. anyway, myself searched hours on internet , never found response, dug around , did testing myself, , i'm posting sake of others may looking answer.

delete old keybinding, go preferences folder in user library (option-click go menu in finder access it), , remove these 2 files:

com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist
com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist.lockfile (if present)

can move them trash, log out , in. afterward, can go mission control preference pane correctly set mouse buttons desire without conflicts.

note doing reset other user-defined keyboard shortcuts.

way, mention of being old setting exposé getting stuck pointed me right direction in own investigation. thanks. has solved problem experiencing mission control forcing desktop , dashboard restart.

  1. You are a hero. It is the only place in the whole internet where I could find the solution! It happened again when upgrading from Mojave to Catalina!
