How do I format my new NTFS HDD to HFS+?

i have imac g5 20" als i've upgraded hdd in. bought 750gb ntfs (pc) hdd. cannot imac boot install dvd.

gives? should try next?

i've tried:
friend's dvd
own dvd in machine
reseating ram
reseating hdd
external dvd drive
mac os x 10.4, 10.5
holding down option - brings nothing choose from
holding down c - drive spins , fires up, nothing dvd
holding down opt + apple + p + r
holding down opt + apple + o + f

please me. need run business. :[

have access mac firewire? target disk mode then.
if can't boot dvd, might hard install os onto it? old imac hdd in enclosure 3.5" hdds connected via firewire?
