Handbrake question (transitioning to new hardware)

apologize if has been covered already, want make sure have correct info. have original ipad, iphone 4, , apple tv 2. have been using apple tv 2 preset bd rips , files play on devices (and i'm happy quality).

1080p reality new ipad , apple tv 3 (which plan on buying time in future) i'd start encoding files 1080p. see best way using either high profile or normal presets. however, doing so, still able load , play these files on original ipad , iphone 4 (without jailbreaking)? know apple tv 2 can play files , output them @ 720p, i'm more concerned fact won't able view these files on current ipad , iphone.

 

i have encoded 2 1080p files using high profile preset apple tv 3 , new ipad. unfortunately not show sync on iphone 4s, looks you'll need have 720p version too, able support devices.

i'm thinking high profile preset has advanced h.264 settings iphone 4s cannot handle reason. however, know using apple tv 2 preset , turning dimensions 1920x1080p playable file on iphone 4s because tried before.
