Time Machine Question

i'm not sure if dumb question, here goes, had problems usb hub connected time capsule, disconnected everything, , notice when time machine backing places icon on desktop. i'm sure never did before. updated latest version of lion, change due this. i'm wondering if have changed accident, , if so, how change back? help.

 

mine too, , has done day 1. icon goes away after backup's done.

i'm sure there way force hide, me sounds being visible default behavior. maybe if backups fast icon never there long enough notice it.
