How do I boot from another drive

i having problems power mac g5. need boot drive. how do that...do hold down "alt" key turn on?

help...thanks

 

if have system disc (cd), put in cd drive , boot while holding down c key. if works, go system preferences , select startup disk , choose external (bootable) hard drive, reboot. (this assumes can't boot @ mac.)
