when had iphone tethering, call at&t have them turn on tethering feature whenever traveling. know if can same ipad lte data plan? don't want have on time when i'm traveling, have lte plan turned on , turned off prorated discount or refund.
called at&t , 1 rep spoke wasn't sure if prorated or not. didn't want call rep figured ask experts first.

here's confused reps -- data plans can prepaid or postpaid, , 2 behave differently.
prepaid data not prorated. sign ipad. when sign choose 3gb $30 or 250mb $15 or whatever top end 1 is. you've bought chunk of data, , have 30 days use it. when either 30 days or you've used data, autorenews month. during time can cancel autorenew if , continue use block of data until gone or 30 days purchase. if further cancel whole data account, it's gone , no refund.
prepaid has no overage charges; when use data, buy block normal price. doesn't matter if took 3 days burn through or 29 days so. when buy bottle of pepsi , finish it, buy bottle.
postpaid data works cellphone account, no contract or etf or activation (with at&t). 1 should prorated if cancel. trick can't (as far know) start/stop ipad, have go at&t store or call customer service. proration may double edged sword; if use 2.5gb of 3gb in 15 days , cancel, i'm not sure how handle that... postpaid have overage since you'd using more data monthly allowance.
