for of have apple tv, there 2 ways stream media files computer atv without jailbreaking it.
options: (1) airplay or (2) plex/ios device.
these assuming apple tv , tv setup.
option 1: via airplay, 1 able use mp4, m4v, or mov files. works fine if of media fall these apple friendly formats.
you'll need these:
- mac (not sure pc)
- apple tv
- tv
1. drag file movies or tv shows section in itunes. note: copy , create new file in itunes harddrive.
2. play , select airplay button in video ui.
3. enjoy.
if media files not work in itunes, time consuming transcode , reorganize them right format. now, have found band-aid problem showing option two.
option 2:
you'll need these:
- mac (not sure pc)
- ios device (iphone, ipad, or ipod touch)
- apple tv
- tv
- plex (installed on both mac , ios device)
1. run plex on mac or pc. import files via media manager. make sure consolidate movies in 1 folder, , tv shows in another. see plex match title , show details of movie/tv show.
2. make sure plex media server on , sharing files. need have media manager on, , can control via status menu on os x. plex app on mac not need run, plex media server does.
3. next you'll want calibrate ios device media server setup plex app. once done, have access files in plex through ios device.
4. select whichever video want watch , click airplay option apple tv. need do.
1 thing noticed when using option 2 mbp fans getting loud. believe due plex app transcoding non-apple compatible files compatible format on 'fly' or goes. makes cpu use lot of memory.
solution did run minimal amount of apps on computer.
