13" MBP Question for Refurb Units

looking son new mbp 13" b-day, not sure 1 want buy him.

looking @ 3 models in refurb section:

2.3 i5
2.4 i5
2.7 i7

know there minor differences worth spend few hundred more 2.7 or 1 of other units, 2.3 or 2.4? looking advice on own either.

have 2011 mini 2.3 i5 , 8gb ram, works fine, 1 has last him thru college, planning on intel 320 300gb ssd main drive, , external backups. used browsing, email, games run on mac osx, nothing fancy, , basic stuff 13" mbp 2.4

familiar cpu options on 2011 models, wondering if there big enough diff between i5 2.3, , 2.4 compared i7 2.7 otherwise go new 2.4 , student discount $1,100.00 plus on new, gets discount on apple care?

how 2.7 i7 cpu's?

 

any of models suffice basic browsing , typical "college stuff." without more details nobody can past that.
