PowerBook G4: Airport cannot detect other Network

machine
model name: powerbook g4 15"
processor name; powerpc g4 (1.2)
processor speed: 1.67 ghz

airport
wireless card type: airport extreme (0x14e4, 0x4e)

os
leopard 10.5.8 , have latest software updates

reason ?

having problems connecting local library wireless connection. can see other networks while there cannot connect because password protected, can't see library's network.

funny thing is, have come across other people in there using newer mac's , can see network , connect no problem spoken them , once turn on machine network shows up.

have been looking past couple of days on internet through forums, apple support website , doing bunch of reading no joy. wondering if should try , delete docs below (discovered on net) see whether makes difference or because have powerpc , not intel processer.

systemconfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
systemconfiguration/networkinterfaces.plist
systemconfiguration/com.apple.network.identification.plist

have wireless router use @ home , connects no problems not airport base station not need use airport utility.

advice appreciated, don't want give not sure else do.

more library using 802.11n wireless standard. believe best powerbooks can achieve 802.11g standard (airport extreme).

if i'm right that's why can see networks not connect them.
