i have itunes library, have been using itunes library in external drive internal. things got messed , when try play songs says not available , asks me if locate file, cumbersome (it should locate file itself! there such function?)
know files says missing still in internal drive because when imported library itunes in user, contained music files other itunes said missing.
problem is, itunes have bunch of playlists took long time formulate somehow export playlists without duplicating song files unnecessarily. , wipe off itunes , start scratch , import itunes library , import playlists without duplication. how do this?
btw when import library itunes file, duplicating file detriment of hdd storage space?

in same situation. caused apple genius in store - said should move wireless external drive, did, didnt work quick enough realised change bigger internal hd somehow moving got messed up. complicated fact wanted delete quite lot of unwanted music loaded else, library in total 90gb. have 2 or 3 libraries, can't remember which, loads of missing , duplicated files. , lots of playlists in older library (which have been using past few months) want keep. there lot of trouble getting album art too, due metadata being messed apparently. no genius in mac store can spare enough time give me strategy on this, , dont trust them anyway.
in short, want to:
a) start whole new clean library , pick , choose music in music folders (and other media folders) , plonk in new libary, correct associated metadata.
b) import music want several different itunes music folders. (can add these using finder??)
c) work out what's duplicated , missing in bulk ? ie, sort exclamation mark can add these missing songs playlist , keep record of what's missing? doesn't let me see what's missing unless happen click on it! annoying...
d) search album, know it's on hd, not in correct itunes music folder. when locate in finder , try dragging itunes nothing happens, nor happen when go file/add library / , choose files - why this??? how can add , begin amalgamate library have want in it??
e) keep playlists , able keep apps , downloads on apple id
f) make efficient use of space on hd (ie nothing double up)
has become nightmare, giving birth in 10 days , wanted sort out before then.
please help!
