firing quick message advice before go option c take phone genius.
basically, since release of ios 5 , approximate started @ christmas; iphone 4 has been awful retaining or getting signal after going no-signal area. lot of commuting between essex , london, i've never seen phone jump in , out of signal when traveling on train. when decides stay on "searching..." , have airplane mode on/off force onto mobile signal.
there times leave phone in pocket , when home; it's still in "searching..." mode although i'm in strong signal area. relatives complaining can't hold of me , realise signal has gone duff on phone until force signal.
having gone t-mobile uk, said sim card swap thing try before going apple. tried last week, , same symptoms occuring. i've tried numerous restores on phone, stopping roaming (as t-mobile , orange uk sharing masts due merging - thought glitch setup).
there anymore suggestions before go apple genius? iphone 4 replacement original iphone 4 has issue ear speaker not working @ all.

try settings>carrier , see if orange/tmobile there , select it.
while showing orange, t-mobile , orange/tmobile separate options.
