Remote Connection Issue with Windows

having issue connecting work computer (which windows computer) using rdc mac.

when logging on mac, rdc box comes up, work computers name, however, "the mac cannot connect because windows-based computer cannot found." i've tried adding domain computer name no avail.

have no issues connecting same work computer using windows 7 laptop.

place of work uses windows small business server 2011 standard if helps.

 

basic question: did open correct ports on firewall on mac? assume if works windows laptop router has port forwarding enabled.
