mbp drops wifi connection, doesn't automatically pick it up again

i'm running latest snow leopard on 3,1 mbp that's little on 4 years old. other machines in house connected router via ethernet, 1 uses wifi. have netgear router doesn't broadcast ssid , uses wpa2-psk [aes] security. since ssid isn't broadcast, have manually connect wifi on relevant devices. make sure router automatically connected when wifi turned on. network prefs show router on list of preferred networks.

in past, @ various locations using various routers, of have been netgear ones, has worked fine. suddenly, computer drops connection , , have manually reconnect. pita, obviously.

have first generation ipod touch that, @ location router, requires manual login wifi network. has never been necessary in past, since started using router.

ideas how stays connected and, more importantly, automatically chooses router without having manually log in? mbp main issue here, though nice ipod doing this, too.

there's no security benefit not broadcasting ssid.

skills or tools break wlan sniffing packets , cracking wep key isn't going deterred lack of ssid broadcast. besides, you're not using wep, can't broken way.

simplest way can think of fix described problem turn on ssid broadcast, connecting devices can see it. wpa2+aes should more adequate security.

also, didn't mention model router is. maybe it's problem router model.
