mac pro 5,1 here (hex-core) radeon 5870.
several times day hear noise coming 1 of fans. it's faint, putter-putter-putter noise rises , fades away within space of 30 seconds. occurs randomly throughout day. there no other symptoms, i'd rather not leave chance or have precursor bigger problem, , want mac functioning 100% perfectly.
it's hard tell fan causing sound. i'm going try using smcfancontrol narrow down - when issue occurs i'll set 1 of fans on maximum rpm second see if temporarily stops it. still it's difficult determine... has experienced before , knows what's up?
have 3 year applecare plan, if tell techs fan doing it, might reduce time required have in shop.
