Supplier Chatter Pointing to Redesigned iPhone with 4-Inch Display, 'Sleek Look'

topeka capital markets analyst brian white has released new research report today outlining of takeaways recent trip asia talk companies in apple's supply chain. according white, chatter suppliers pointing toward larger 4-inch screen on iphone 5, include redesign bringing "new, sleek look".
white notes suppliers expected begin ramping production of components in june, ahead of launch in august-september timeframe leading blockbuster final quarter of 2012.

as in discussion of larger screen on iphone, issue of screen resolution key sticking point. iphone offering 3.5-inch retina display, increase 4 inches require 1 of 2 changes: increase in resolution yield difficulties developers adding yet device size mix, or decrease in pixel density maintain current resolution see density drop 285 pixels per inch current 326 pixels per inch.

among white's other takeaways trip:

- display issues have caused bit of bottleneck on supplies of new ipad, shortages seem easing. small constraints on march quarter sales numbers compensated boost june quarter sales.

- suppliers suggest smaller "ipad mini" still in works, launch timing remains unknown.

- while new ipad not yet officially available in china, resellers carrying device. speculation pointing potential may release new ipad in china, although evidence timeframe beyond recent regulatory approval appears scant.
