Convert avchd .mts to .mov?


how? , preferably free? appreciated.
 

transcoding .mts files (avchd footage) editable format (.mov)

since topic comes lot , searching not seem successful, here little guide on how transcode .mts files .mov files.

transcoding .mts files (avchd footage) editable format (.mov)​


1. download clipgrab, has component (ffmpeg) next application (2.) needs.
2. download automator script called rewrap2m4v.
3. drag .mts file(s) onto unzipped rewrap2m4v application.
4. see results new .m4v file(s) being created.

5. download mpeg streamclip , open resulting .m4v file.
6. select file > export quicktime (cmd+e).
7. select video codec under compression selection drop down menu - chose prores 422
8. select audio codec under sound selection drop down menu - chose uncompressed
prores , uncompressed proper selections, if want edit video in final cut pro.
can choose apple intermediate codec use in imovie and/or final cut express.
9. if video interlaced (1080i), select interlaced scaling. if video progressive (720p, 1080p), deselect interlaced scaling.
10. click make movie.

11. see resulting .mov file.

if have several video files, can use mpeg streamclip's batch list:

additional info:

if have problems no sound being present in resulting .mov file, download a52codec mac , copy 2 .component files indicated mounted dmg file.
